Are you aged 18 - 25, based in the UK and looking to gain community development experience overseas and build some great skills for your CV? Volunteer in a team alongside local community organisations in Malawi or Zimbabwe.
Progressio International Citizen Service (ICS) is funded by the UK Government's Department for International Development and brings together young people from the UK and developing countries to make a difference in some of the poorest communities in the world.
Our ICS placements are structured, with clear objectives, and based on the needs of the local community. Projects focus on sustainable environment, HIV & AIDS and women’s rights and gender equality.

Why do it?
You will work alongside local organisations and UK and national volunteers, working together to make a lasting difference.
You will develop skills like team work, working cross-culturally, media, languages, monitoring and evaluation, project management, and events planning, and increase your confidence.
Previous ICS volunteers have:
• Run HIV & AIDS and climate change awareness campaigns for schools and community groups
• Built eco-schools using eco-construction techniques, in partnership with local experts
• Took part in food security projects involving planting veggie gardens
• Supported the local economy by creating eco-tourism routes
• Provided self-esteem and skills lessons for street children and indigenous women
• Organised sports days promoting gender equality and an end to child marriage

The basics…
• Aside from Malawi and Zimbabwe, we have placements in Central America (El Salvador, Honduras and Nicaragua)
• Flights, accommodation, food, health insurance and pocket money will be provided
• You will volunteer for 12 weeks overseas and inspired by your experience become an active citizen once you are back in the UK
• You will get lots of training and support throughout the whole journey.
To apply you must be living in the UK and have either a UK passport, indefinite leave to remain in the UK or be an EU/EEA citizen who has been living in the UK for the last 12 months.
